The steel market superimposed the epidemic in the off-season

Jun 17, 2020

With the advent of summer, the high temperature and rainy weather are gradually increasing, the traditional off-season of the steel market is gradually coming, the demand for catching up has gradually weakened, and the digestion capacity on the demand side is insufficient, which has shown signs in many links of the industrial chain.

The signs of falling steel prices have already appeared

Since April, steel demand has continued to be strong and steel prices have risen. According to the monitoring data of the Lange Steel Cloud Business Platform, as of June 16, the average price of tertiary rebar (Φ25mm) in ten major domestic cities has increased by more than 100 yuan from the previous month.

However, with the arrival of the off-season and the gradual weakening of demand for rush work, starting from June 9th, steel prices have declined slightly. As of June 16, the average price of tertiary rebar (Φ25mm) in ten major domestic cities was 3,742 yuan/ton, and the rebar current futures all declined by several tens of yuan, which reflects the lack of power on the demand side. It can also be seen from the high inventory.

Shipment of steel traders decreased significantly

Zhang Ying, general manager of Beijing Ruichao Xinglong Trading Co., Ltd., said that due to the high temperature and rainy weather, prices have recently dropped, and shipments have decreased by about 30% compared with last month. With the improvement of the economic situation, she is more optimistic about July and August Shipments; Cheng Wei, manager of the spiral department of Beijing Triumph Metal Materials Sales Center, also said that the recent volume and price fell together. He said that shipments in May were very large, and recent shipments have decreased by about 20% in the short term The market will show consolidation. In addition, he believes that the reduction in shipments is also related to the rebound of the epidemic in Beijing in the past few days. Drivers are afraid that isolation and unwillingness to leave the car will also reduce shipments.
